Mexican steelmaker Villacero forecasts growth of 3 percent for the end of this year, according to Enrique Mustieles, Deputy General Manager of Corporate Business.
According to the executive, that expectation is due to the rise in infrastructure spending and consumption of steel, plus energy reform and the adoption of secondary legislation which will have a multiplier effect for their products.
Although last year steel consumption nationwide fell 8.9 percent, the expectations of the company toward the end of 2014 point to growth, including the pipeline Los Ramones and Monterrey VI projects.
He noted that the construction sector is one of the major steel consuming sectors, accounting for about 60 percent of total demand in Mexico, but poor performance in the sector has a direct impact on the consumption of steel in the country.
"We are working to identify business opportunities to grow, as we did with the auto industry," he said.
