Thursday, 25 October 2007 13:37:48 (GMT+3)   |

SeverCorr, America's newest steelmaking company, launched production this week, just under two years after construction began.

Now that the first $880 million phase of production is completed, SeverCorr will commence work on a second phase which will include a second furnace, increasing the mill's production capacity from 1.5 million tons of steel a year to nearly 3.5 million tons, and increasing the number of employees from 450 to about 600.

The official grand opening of the state-of-the-art plant, which uses EAF technology to produce high-quality exposed automotive steel, is slated for next spring.

SeverCorr is the joint project of Russian steel giant Severstal and US steel industry veteran John Correnti. The Lowndes County, Mississippi-based mill will service the fast-growing markets in the southern US and northern Mexico.
