MED: Russia’s coal output to increase by 6.2 percent in 2010

Russia's Ministry of Economic Development (MED) expects the country's coal output in 2010 to increase by 6.2 percent year on year to 320 million mt, including 64 million mt of coking coal - up five percent year on year with demand continuing its upward trend. 2010 coal deliveries to the domestic market are expected to amount to 224.3 million mt - up 9.7 percent year on year.

According to the MED's estimations, in 2010, in favorable external economic conditions, Russia's exports of coal will increase by 7.6 percent year on year to 113.1 million mt, with 57.4 percent of overall deliveries to be directed to Western and Eastern Europe and the Middle East, 17.3 percent to CIS and Baltic countries, and 25.3 percent to the Asia-Pacific region. 

By 2013, the MED expects Russian coal output to increase to 335 million mt - up 11.2 percent compared to 2009, including 69 million mt of coking coal - up 13.1 percent, deliveries to the domestic market are expected to rise to 229 million mt - up 12 percent, while coal exports are expected to increase to 116 million mt - up 10.4 percent, all compared to 2009.
