Mechel, one of the leading Russian mining and metals companies, has announced the commissioning of a backhoe hydraulic excavator at the Krasnogorsk open pit mine owned by its coal mining subsidiary Southern Kuzbass.

The new machinery is designed for complete coal seam extraction by the open cast method of coal mining and has cost Mechel Ruble 80 million ($3 million).

The installation of the backhoe hydraulic excavator will allow the Krasnogorsk mine to reduce its operational losses of coal from four percent to two percent.
