One of the largest Russian mining and steel companies Mechel has announced the commissioning of new mining machines at the open-pit mine of its coal subsidiary Southern Kuzbass.

The commissioning of the new machines will enable Southern Kuzbass to reduce its operational losses of coal by two-to-four percent, to increase its coal output, reduce the risk of environmental pollution and improve overall mine efficiency.

The new equipment was put into operation in line with Mechel's technical re-equipment program and cost Ruble 178 million (approx. $7 million).
