"Khouzestan Oxin Steel will reach its nominal capacity [1.05 million mt per year] in less than three years," the Iranian steelmaker's managing director Fathollah Tayebi stated recently. Mr. Tayebi added that they estimated plate production at the mill in the coming Iranian year (starts March 21) at 150,000 mt, at 450,000 mt in the following Iranian year and at 1 million mt in the year after that.
Khouzestan Oxin Steel is the only rolling mill not only in Iran but also in the Middle East capable of rolling plates of up to 4,500 mm in width.
The mill, which is located close to the southwestern Iranian city of Ahwaz (near the Persian Gulf), was put into operation in May 2009.
