The first phase of a new Iranian steel producing complex, Azna Steel Complex, is expected to come on stream in February 2011 with a capacity of 1.2 million mt of plate, which will be used for the production of pipes for oil and gas lines.
Around 70 percent of construction work on the first phase has already been completed while the majority of equipment, manufactured in Germany, has been dispatched to the project site. An investment of about Rials 4 trillion (about $400 million) has been estimated for the two-phase project.
Azna Steel Complex is located on a site covering 111 hectares close to the city of Azna in the western Iranian province of Lorestan.
