Japan’s coking coal imports up 20 percent in May over April

According to statistics released by Japan's Ministry of Finance, Japan's coking coal imports totaled 6.1 million metric tons in May this year, rising by 20 percent month on month and up 21.3 percent compared to May 2011.
 
In the first five months of 2012, Japan's coking coal imports amounted to 28.8 million metric tons, decreasing by one percent year on year.
 
In the first five months of this year, Japan's coking coal imports from Australia rose by 7.1 percent compared to the same month last year to 15.74 million metric tons, while Indonesia exported 6.7 million mt of coking coal to Japan in May this year, rising by just 0.3 percent year on year.
