Japan’s coking coal imports slightly down in H1

According to statistics released by Japan's Ministry of Finance, Japan's coking coal imports totaled 5.5 million metric tons in June this year, falling by 10.8 percent month on month and down slightly by 0.3 percent compared to June 2011.

In the first half of 2012, Japan's coking coal imports amounted to 34.3 million metric tons, decreasing by 0.9 percent year on year.

In the first half of this year, Japan's coking coal imports from Australia rose by 2.9 percent compared to the same period of last year to 18.36 million metric tons, while Indonesia exported 8.1 million mt of coking coal to Japan in the January-June period of this year, rising by 9.9 percent year on year.
