According to the latest data released by Federacciai, the Italian federation of steel companies, in April this year Italy’s steel production totaled 1.9 million metric tons, up 7.2 percent compared to April 2025. After the slight 0.2 percent increase recorded in March, production accelerated in April, reaching its highest level for the month in the last four years. In the January-April period of 2026, Italian steel output amounted to 7.6 million metric tons, increasing by 2.9 percent year on year.

In detail, data for hot rolled products continued to show a divergent trend between the two main product families. In April, long product output amounted to 1.2 million metric tons, rising by 12.3 percent year on year. In the January-April period, longs output totaled 4.6 million metric tons, up 10.5 percent compared to the same period of 2025. By contrast, flat product output remained on a downward trend. In April, production stood at 743,000 metric tons, down 9.3 percent year on year. In the first four months of 2026, flat product output totaled 3.1 million metric tons, decreasing by 6.7 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
