According to the figures released by the Italian steel producers' association Federacciai, in October this year Italian crude steel output rose by 9.6 percent year on year and by 5.84 percent month on month, totaling 2.7 million metric tons. Italian crude steel output in the first 10 months of the current year increased by 11.5 percent year on year to 24.036 million metric tons.

Federacciai also released Italy's long and flat steel output data for September this year. Accordingly, in September Italy's long steel output was down 0.6 percent year on year and up 240.66 percent month on month, totaling 1.223 million metric tons. On the other hand, in the same month Italian flat steel output reached 1.337 million metric tons, increasing by 35 percent year on year and by 24.5 percent month on month. In both cases, the strong growth as compared to the month of August is the result of the resumption of production work after the summer holidays.

In the first nine months of 2011, long steel production in Italy reached 9.745 million mt, up 9.2 percent, while flat steel production grew by 19.5 percent to 10.954 million mt, both year on year.
