Italy’s crude steel output down 5.2 percent in 2012

According to the figures released by the Italian steel producers association Federacciai, in December last year Italian crude steel output decreased by 16.3 percent year on year, totaling 1.699 million metric tons. December was the ninth month in a row in which a year-on-year fall in output was recorded.
 
In the whole of 2012, total Italian crude steel output amounted to 27.227 million mt, down 5.2 percent year on year. Compared to 2008, Italy’s crude steel output in 2012 was down 3.36 million mt or 11 percent.
 
In Q4 2012, Italian crude steel output amounted to 6.405 million mt, down 12.5 percent compared to Q4 2011 and down 1.85 percent compared to Q4 2008. In Q3 last year, the negative variations compared to the corresponding quarter in 2011 and 2008 amounted respectively to 10.5 percent and 15.3 percent.
