Iran ups steel exports

Iranian officials have stated that Iran exported about two million metric tons of steel products in the year ended March 20, 2007.

The National Iranian Steel Company announced that steel production is expected to exceed 28 million metric tons by 2010 (the end of the Fourth Five-Year Development Plan), of which 6.5 million mt will be covered by new provincial projects.

Meanwhile by 2021, Iran expects to produce 54.6 million metric tons of steel domestically and increase its share in global steel production to 3.5 percent.
