India’s industrial production rises 4.2 percent in April

India’s industrial production was up 4.2 percent in April 2023, compared to 6.7 percent in corresponding month of previous year, but higher than 1.1 percent in March 2023, according to data released by ministry of statistics and program implementation on Tuesday, June 13.

As measured by Index of Industrial Production (IIP), the manufacturing sector’s output in April was up 4.9 percent against 5.6 percent in April 2022.

Power generation declined 11 percent in April 2023, against a growth of 11.8 percent in corresponding month of previous year while mining output was up 1.1 percent, against 11.8 percent in April 2022.

As per user-based classification, capital goods recorded a growth of 6.2 percent against 12 percent in April 2022 and consumer durables output declined 3.5 percent against a growth of 7.2 percent in April 2022, the ministry statement said.
