Indian coking coal port traffic up 11 percent during April-October

Inward shipments of coking coal through all major Indian ports during the April-October period of the current year were recorded at 31.66 million mt, up 11.48 percent over the corresponding months of previous year, according to data sourced from Indian Ports Association (IPA).

The growth in inward shipments during the period is in line with projections by the Coal Ministry that Indian coking coal imports will see an increase in the range of 12-13 percent during the financial year 2018-19 (began April 1) against a rise of eight percent during the previous financial year.

According to the IPA data, iron ore and pellet freight traffic handled by all major ports in India was recorded at 21.95 million mt during April-October 2018, a decline of 13.28 percent over the corresponding months of the previous year.
