India becomes net finished steel exporter in 2025-26 after two-year hiatus

India, after a hiatus of two years, again became a net exporter of finished steel during the fiscal year 2025-26, provisional government trade data showed on Tuesday, April 28.

Indian exported 6.6 million mt of finished steel during the fiscal year 2025-26, a rise of 36 percent year on year. At the same time, its total imports of finished steel were estimated at 6.5 million mt, a decline of 32 percent year on year, the data showed.

Finished steel consumption in India was 164.2 million mt in the given year, a rise of eight percent year on year.

South Korea, China, Japan, Vietnam and Russia were the biggest exporters of finished steel to India in FY 2025-26.
