Sweden-based H2 Green Steel has announced that it has signed an agreement with Swedish shipping company Gotland Company to establish a hydrogen production plant. The green hydrogen will be used in part of Gotland Company’s fleet.

Gotland Company is developing two new ships that will be able to operate on hydrogen gas. For the first step, the companies will implement a feasibility study to transport the hydrogen to harbors. The electrolyzer capacity required is estimated at about 300 MW.

To operate the traffic between the island of Gotland and mainland Sweden on 100 percent hydrogen gas, approximately 20,000 metric tons of hydrogen gas will be required annually.
