Australian miner Fortescue Metals Group (Fortescue) has announced that it achieved a record-breaking monthly shipment of iron ore in August this year, with a total of 15.16 million mt, exceeding the previous monthly record of 13.25 million mt shipped in June this year.

Fortescue CEO Nev Power said the record result was very positive and was built on a strong July performance as Fortescue worked toward its previously guided shipping target of 155-160 million mt for the financial year 2014-15.

"Since completing our ramp-up to 155 million mt earlier this year, Fortescue has concentrated on improving safety, reducing costs and operating more efficiently and  this monthly result is evidence of our progress," added Mr. Power.
