Evraz registers 1.1 percent increase in crude steel output for 2013

Global steelmaking and mining giant Evraz Group S.A. has announced that its crude steel output amounted to 3.989 million mt in the fourth quarter of 2013, up 0.7 percent quarter on quarter.

In the fourth quarter last year, the crude steel production of the Russian division of Evraz Group increased by 0.6 percent quarter on quarter to 2.986 million mt.

Evraz's Ukrainian operations saw their crude steel production decline by 2.8 percent quarter on quarter in the fourth quarter last year to 239,000 mt.

In the fourth quarter last year, the North American unit of Evraz recorded a 10.7 percent quarter-on-quarter decrease to 499,000 mt in its crude steel production.

In 2013, the consolidated crude steel output of Evraz increased by 1.1 percent year on year to 16.109 million mt.

Regarding the group's consolidated production of finished steel products, production amounted to 2.574 million mt in the fourth quarter of 2013, registering a 5.8 percent decrease compared to the previous quarter, while the finished steel product output for the full year decreased by 1.9 percent year on year to 10.830 million mt.

As regards iron ore, Evraz Group's production in the fourth quarter was 10.3 percent lower at 4.7 million mt, while its raw coking coal production increased by 5.1 percent to 5.048 million mt, both quarter on quarter.

In 2013, the overall production of saleable iron ore products by the company decreased by one percent and amounted to 20.4 million mt compared with 20.8 million mt in 2012.
