Euro area industrial output down 0.6 percent in June from May

In June this year, seasonally-adjusted industrial production fell by 0.6 percent in the euro area and by 0.5 percent in the EU-28, as compared with May, while industrial production in May had increased by 1.2 percent both in the euro area and in the EU-28, both on month-on-month basis. In June this year compared with June last year, industrial production increased by 2.6 percent in the euro area and by 2.9 percent in the EU-28. These figures are released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Union

As compared to May, in June this year the production of durable goods fell 1.2 percent in the euro area and by 0.8 percent in the EU-28, while the production of non-durable consumer goods decreased 0.4 percent in the euro area and 0.3 percent in the EU-28. In June this year, production of capital goods fell by 1.9 percent in the euro area and by 1.5 percent in the EU-28, while the production of intermediate goods decreased by 0.3 percent in the euro area and 0.4 percent in the EU-28, all month on month. Meanwhile, production of energy increased by 1.8 percent in the euro area and by 1.4 percent in the EU-28, month on month. 

Among the member states, in June the highest month-on-month decreases were registered in Ireland (-7.5%), the Czech Republic (-3.8%) and Malta (-3.2%), and the highest increases in Luxembourg (+3.4%) and Estonia, Croatia and the Netherlands (all +1.2%).

As compared to the same month of 2016, in June this year production of durable consumer goods increased by four percent in the euro area and was up by 4.2 percent in the EU-28, production of intermediate goods rose by 3.8 percent in the euro area and by 3.9 percent in the EU-28, while production of capital goods increased by 1.6 percent in the euro area and rose by 2.4 percent in the EU-28, all year on year. In June this year, production of non-durable consumer goods increased by 0.6 percent in the euro area and moved up by 1.5 percent in the EU-28, while production of energy rose by 5.1 percent in the euro area and was up by 3.7 percent in the EU-28, both on year-on-year basis.

Among the member states for which data are available, in June the largest year-on-year increases were registered in Estonia (+14.5%), Romania (+11.5%) and Sweden (+8.9%), and the largest decreases in Ireland (-8.1%) and Malta (-1.3%).
