The European Commission has announced that it has initiated an antidumping (AD) duty investigation into imports of hot rolled (HR) stainless steel sheets and coils from China, Indonesia and Taiwan.

The investigation follows a complaint lodged by the European Steel Association (EUROFER) on the grounds that the imports from these countries are made at dumped prices and hence causing injury to the European producers. The Commission has now up to eight months to collect evidence and decide whether to impose provisional measures.

China and Taiwan are also subject to tariff rate quotas with quotas of 224,622 mt and 33,003 mt of respectively for the period between July 1, 2019 and June 6, 2020. As of August 14, China has a quota of 176,733 mt left, while Taiwan’s remaining quota volume stands at 30,376 mt.

The products subject to antidumping duty investigation currently fall under Customs Tariff Statistics Position Numbers 7219 11, 7219 12, 7219 13, 7219 14, 7219 22, 7219 23, 7219 24, 7220 11 and 7220 12.
