According to the European steel association EUROFER, in the month of October this year the flat steel imports of the European Union (EU) reached 889,000 mt, while EU long steel imports amounted to 251,000 mt. Accordingly, overall EU finished steel imports in October totaled 1.139 million mt, up 9.83 percent month on month and down 18.17 percent compared to the same month in 2011.
In October, flat steel imports into the EU rose on month-on-month basis for the third month in a row, even if the volume still remained below 900,000 mt. On the other hand, EU long steel imports in October were up compared to the minimal import volumes seen in June, July, August and September and also compared to the same month in 2011.
