On August 13, 2008, the European Commission received a notification that Mitsui & Co. Europe (‘Mitsui', UK) and Bamesa Celik Service Sanayi ve Ticaret (‘Bamesa Celik', Turkey), jointly controlled by Bamesa Aceros SL (‘Bamesa', Spain) and ArcelorMittal Group (‘ArcelorMittal', Luxembourg), have acquired joint control of the whole of a newly created JV, Bami Celik Service Sanayi ve Ticaret AS (‘Bami', Turkey), by way of purchase of shares.

After examination of the notification, the Commission announced on September 23, 2008 that the notified operation is in conformity within the scope of Council Regulation and so it has decided not to oppose the notified operation, declaring it compatible with the common market.

Bami Celik is involved in steel processing and distribution in Turkey, while Bamesa Aceros operates a network of service centers which are active in the iron and steel sector. Meanwhile, Mitsui operates in the worldwide trading of a number of commodities, including steel products.
