Italian plantmaker Danieli has announced that it will revamp the two-strand continuous slab caster No. 2 at global steel giant ArcelorMittal's slab and flat steel producing subsidiary ArcelorMittal Tubarão’s plant in Serra, in the state of Espírito Santo in Brazil. Start-up is expected in the second quarter of 2019.
Danieli stated that the project includes the complete replacement of all molds, oscillators and segments with the latest design of such equipment from Danieli, renovation of worn structures and a completely new caster maintenance area. The objective of this revamping and the technological update is to improve plant flexibility, product quality, plant productivity and reduce conversion costs.
The two-strand continuous slab caster No. 2 was originally installed in 1998 and produces slabs of 200/225/250 mm thickness with widths ranging from 1,050 mm to 2,100 mm, and will be able to reach 2,300 mm width. Steel grades produced include ultra-low, low, medium and high carbon steels, peritectic and HSLA steels and micro-alloyed steels.
