CSN posts $19.6 million net profit for Q3

Brazilian steel and iron ore producer CSN achieved a net profit of BRL 91 million ($19.6 million) for Q3, against BRL 283 million for the previous quarter.

Under the same comparative basis, net sales revenues increased by 1 percent to BRL 11.125 billion, the gross profit increased by 25 percent to BRL 2.805 billion, and the EBITDA increased by 24 percent to BRL 2.815 billion.

Income tax has played a key role in the lower net profit, with a positive impact of BRL 328 million in Q2, against a negative impact of BRL 333 million in Q3.

By volume, domestic sales of steel products increased by 1 percent to 747,000 mt, while steel exports declined by 13 percent to 271,000 mt.

Domestic iron ore sales increased by 76 percent to 1.765 million mt, while iron ore exports declined by 29 percent to 10.26 million mt.

Considering the impact of the different areas of CSN activity on the EBITDA achieved in Q3, steel production responded for 6.5 percent, mining for 69.9 percent, logistics for 15.1 percent, energy for 0.9 percent and cement for 9.5 percent, without considering internal eliminations.
