Russia-based steel pipe producer ChTPZ Group has announced that it has become the only supplier of low-temperature large diameter (LD) pipe for the construction of the coastal part of the Nord Stream 2 natural gas pipeline.

Accordingly, in the January-May period this year, ChTPZ Group will ship about 3,000 mt of large diameter pipes to Nord Stream 2 AG, the operator of the pipeline. The products will be produced at ChTPZ’s Chelyabinsk Pipe Rolling Plant. The entire volume of the large diameter pipes will be produced from low-temperature steel; accordingly, the operating temperature could be as low as -38°C.

To date, the ChTPZ Group has supplied 400,000 mt of large diameter pipes for the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

The Nord Stream 2 pipeline through the Baltic Sea will deliver natural gas directly from some of the world’s largest known reserves in Russia to the gas market in the European Union.
