German plantmaker SMS Siemag has announced that its subsidiary SMS Mevac has received an order for the supply of a VOD (vacuum oxygen decarburization) facility from China-based Fujian Fuxin Special Steel.

The aim of the project is to enable the production of austenitic and ferritic stainless steels.  Fujian Fuxin plans to commence production of stainless steel at its Zhangzhou plant at the end of 2014.

According to SMS Siemag's statement, to protect the environment the VOD unit's vacuum pump system will include a gas cooler and an integrated bag filter system.
