Chinese shipbuilding industry sees slower activity in Jan-Apr

According to the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI), China's shipbuilding industry has seen a slowdown in both output and demand levels in the first four months of the current year.

In January-April this year, China's completed shipbuilding output totaled 15.65 million deadweight tons (dwt), down 16.8 percent year on year, while new shipbuilding orders received during the period amounted to 7.37 million dwt, down 45.9 percent year on year. At the end of April, total ship orders on the books of the Chinese shipbuilding industry amounted to 139.24 million dwt, down 26.1 percent year on year.
