China has officially complained to the World Trade Organization (WTO) against the latest US tariffs of 15 percent on $300.0 billion worth of Chinese imports, including consumer goods like watches, nappies and shoes, as announced by China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOC) on September 2. “The tax measures imposed by the US seriously contravene the consensus reached at the G20 summit by President Trump and President Xi Jinping in Osaka in June,” the MOC statement said, while going on to express its strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to the US measures.

Moreover, China will firmly safeguard its legitimate rights and interests, and firmly defend the multilateral trading system and international trade order in accordance with the relevant WTO rules, the MOC affirmed.
