Canadian rig count finally moves up as US count continues to rise

Baker Hughes has reported that for the week ending May 19, the US rotary rig count increased by 16 to 901 following an eight-rig increase the week before. The number of rigs drilling for gas increased by eight to 180, while the number of rigs drilling for oil increased by eight to 720. The overall rig count is now up by 497 rigs in a year-on-year comparison.
 
Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count increased by five to 85 rigs in the week ending May 19, following a two-rig decrease the week before. The Canadian rig count is now up by 41 rigs from the same week a year ago.
