The Canadian government plans to impose new measures on steel imports to prevent diversion of steel from other countries caused by the US steel tariffs, according to Bloomberg.

The measures are expected to be a combination of quotas and tariffs aimed at certain countries including China. While there is no comment from Canada’s Ministry of Finance, an announcement is expected next week.

Bloomberg stated that steelmakers in Canada have been pressing for safeguard measures against unfair and diverted steel imports.
