Mexican steel association Canacero told local media this week it is willing to cooperate with the country’s anti-trust commission, Cofece, in an ongoing investigation about an allegedly monopoly in the sale of steel to the Mexican government.

Cofece did not name which producers, distributors or steelmakers, if any, were supposedly involved in the scheme, according to a statement released this week.

A Canacero executive said the trade group stands for free competition, adding that it has implemented stricter protocols to assure fair competition.

Cofece said it will close the case if it fails to find enough elements to prove the allegations. According to Cofece, Mexico’s public spending reaches about 10 percent the nation’s GDP.
