Brazil Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (CSN) said on Thursday it is interested in acquiring the US assets of Russian steelmaker OAO Severstal.

According to the Brazil-based steel producer, it is participating in a bidding process to complete the deal. It is also analyzing the viability of operations and hopes to make an acquisition proposal.

According to reports, Severstal said earlier this month that the deal would be an “interesting option” as the company seeks to increase profits and diminish debts.
