In November this year, Brazilian crude steel production totaled 2.8 million metric tons, falling by 9.8 percent compared to October this year and up 2.4 percent compared to November 2011, according to the Brazil Steel Institute (IABr).
Brazil's rolled steel product output totaled 2.2 million mt in November, falling by 4.4 percent month on month and up 10.1 percent year on year. Of this total, the country's flat steel output stood at 1.3 million mt - down 1.3 percent from October and up 23.2 percent year on year, while Brazil's long steel output amounted to 850,700 metric tons, falling by 8.9 percent month on month and down 5.6 percent compared to November 2011.
On the other hand, in the first 11 months of this year, Brazil's crude steel output fell 1.4 percent to 32.1 million metric tons, while its rolled steel output increased by four percent to 24.3 million metric tons, including 14.2 million metric tons of flat products - up 7.8 percent, and 10.1 million metric tons of long products - down 0.9 percent, all compared to the corresponding period of 2011.
Domestic steel product sales totaled 1.8 million metric tons in November, up 2.5 percent year on year, while domestic sales in the first 11 months totaled 20 million metric tons, increasing by 0.9 percent compared to the same period last year.
Brazil's exports of steel products in November amounted to 788,500 metric tons, falling by 2.8 percent, worth US$501.5 million, down 20.9 percent, both compared to November 2011. Steel product exports in the January-November period of this year totaled 9 million mt, worth US$6.5 billion, with decreases of 9.6 percent in volume and 15.5 percent in value compared to the corresponding period of 2011.
Meanwhile, the country's steel import volume in November totaled 279,200 metric tons (US$349 million), with the total in the first 11 months reaching 3.5 million metric tons of steel products (US$4.2 billion), representing a 2.7 percent increase from the same period last year.
