In November this year, Brazilian crude steel production totaled 2.7 million metric tons, falling by 5.2 percent as compared to October and up by 3.7 percent from November 2010, according to the Brazil Steel Institute (IABr).
Brazil's rolled steel product output totaled 1.9 million mt in November, falling by 10.6 percent month on month and down five percent year on year. Of this total, the country's flat steel output stood at 997,500 mt - down 10.2 percent over October and down 14 percent year on year, while Brazil's long steel output amounted to 893,200 metric tons, falling by 11 percent month on month and up 7.6 percent compared to November 2010.
On the other hand, in the first 11 months of this year, Brazil's crude steel output rose 6.5 percent, reaching 32.5 million metric tons, while its rolled steel output decreased by 1.8 percent to 23.3 million metric tons, including 13.04 million metric tons of flat products - down 7.3 percent, and 10.2 million metric tons of long products - up 6.4 percent, all compared to the corresponding period of 2010.
Domestic steel product sales totaled 1.7 million metric tons in November, rising by 11.6 percent year on year, while sales in the first 11 months totaled 19.9 million metric tons, increasing by 2.9 percent compared to the same period last year.
Exports of steel products in November amounted to 811,100 metric tons - down 17.8 percent year on year, worth US$634.3 million. Exports in the January-November period of this year totaled 9.92 million mt, worth US$7.7 billion, with increases of 25.6 percent in volume and 53.1 percent in value compared to the corresponding period of 2010.
Meanwhile, the country's steel import volume in November totaled 333,700 metric tons (US$420 million), with the first 11 months' total reaching 3.4 million metric tons of steel products (US$4.1 billion), representing a 37.3 percent increase from the same period last year.
