Brazilian slab exports decline in November

Friday, 06 December 2024 09:05:19 (GMT+3)   |   Sao Paulo

Brazil exported 229,300 mt and did not import slabs in November, against respectively 413,900 mt and 47,000 mt in October.

In November, Ternium exported 137,200 mt of slabs at $617/mt to the US, ArcelorMittal Tubarão exported 36,800 mt at $565 to the US and 16,500 mt at $555/mt to Canada, Gerdau exported 20,100 mt at $520/mt to the UK, and ArcelorMittal Pecem exported 18,700 mt at $808/mt to the US, all FOB conditions.

Such prices were probably negotiated in October, while current export prices were stable during the week at $540/mt, FOB conditions for the basic commercial grades.

A small price increase is expected for the upcoming weeks to reflect the temporary reduction of production due to an incident at ArcelorMittal Tubarão in November.

The higher domestic demand for steel products, due to the positive performance of the local economy, will also play a role in the evolution of the slabs export price in the view of analysts.
