Privately owned Brazilian Port of Açu made its first high purity pig iron shipment, a port representative said this week.

The port sent a cargo of 20,000 mt of pig iron produced in Ouro Branco, in Minas Gerais state, to Spain.

Ouro Branco is home to a Gerdau’s mill of same name.

The port, which is owned by several companies, including Prumo and Anglo American, which own an iron ore terminal, exported a pig iron product known as “beach iron.” Bleach iron is known for its high purity.

The port said another 30,000 mt of pig iron will be sent to other undisclosed destinations.
