Brazil’s upper house of the National Congress has recommended two executives for the country’s state-run National Mining Agency (ANM).

ANM is expected to implement policies for the local mining sector, establish industry norms, as well as to manage information and the use of mineral resources in Brazil. According to policymakers in the upper house, Eduardo Araujo de Souza Leao and Tomas Antonio Albuquerque de Paula Pessoa Filho were recommended to take roles at ANM.

Policymakers did not specify which roles the two executives would assume. Eduardo Leao should take on a four-year position, while Tomas Filho should assume a two-year role at ANM.

Leao was a former environment manager at Vale, and currently works a consulting role at Para’s state secretary of economic development, mining and energy. Filho is a lawyer and a former politician.
