Brazil crude steel production declines in H1

Brazilian crude steel production in the first half (H1) of the year decreased 1.4 percent, year-on-year, to 17.2 million mt, according to the local steel association, IABr.

Domestic steel sales in H1 rose 1.3 percent, year-on-year, to 9.2 million mt. Apparent steel consumption in H1 was 10.4 million mt, 0.2 percent up, year-on-year.

Brazilian exports of steel in H1 dropped 2.4 percent, year-on-year, to 6.7 million mt. Brazilian steel imports in the six-month period reached 1.3 million mt, 0.6 percent down, year-on-year.

IABr said the recovery of Brazil’s steel industry for H1 did not take place as expected.
