Shanghai-based giant Chinese steelmaker Baosteel has won a tender for the Queensland Curtis Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project in Australia, successfully becoming the exclusive supplier for the project, according to which it is to deliver 200,000 mt of high quality steel pipeline pipes. This is the first export contract received by Baosteel's UOE welded pipe plant since its commissioning.

The Queensland Curtis LNG project is run by both Queensland Gas Company Limited and British Gas (BG) Group to develop coal seam gas in Queensland for the domestic and export markets. The project includes a network of underground pipelines including a 340 km gas transmission pipeline linking the gas fields to the city of Gladstone, Queensland. The tender in question was for the supply of 200,000 mt of X70 grade steel. Major Japanese and European companies also participated in the tender.
