Ukrainian mining and steel producing group Metinvest has stated that its Mariupol-based subsidiary Azovstal Iron and Steel Works has been forced to temporarily shut down two blast furnaces because of a water supply cut on Saturday, January 24, as a result of a bombardment of the city in the morning of the same day.

Enver Tskitishvili, Azovtsal's chief executive, stated that the electricity substation that powered a facility supplying Azovstal with water had been damaged in the attack. He said a team of workers from Azovstal was helping repair the damage. Tskitishvili said the company was taking all necessary measures to put the plant back into operation.
