Both Argentinian car output and domestic sales declined in December, according to the latest figures released by the nation’s automotive association, Adefa.
The association said Argentina produced 35,198 units in December, 22.6 percent down, month-on-month, and 13.4 percent down, year-on-year.
Argentina exported 10,961 cars in December, 41.1 and 62.3 percent down, month-on-month and year-on-year, respectively.
Domestic sales in the last month of the year declined 25 percent, month-on-month, and 25.3 percent, year-on-year, to 39,415 units.
As for the accumulated period of January to December, Argentina produced 543,467 units, 12 percent down, year-on-year. Exports in the same period diminished 31.3 percent to 245,725 units.
Adefa’s president, Enrique Alemañy, noted a few factors affecting Argentinian car output, including the fall in demand of autos from Brazil, the country’s key partner in the export market. Despite the fall in exports to Brazil, Alemañy said the South American nation is and will continue being a key Argentina’s partner. He added Argentina needs to expand its export market, starting in Latin America.
