ArcelorMittal announced the completion of a major project at its Burns Harbor, Indiana mill, involving the replacement of a new stacker reclaimer to replace one that collapsed in a snow storm in 2014. The $24.4 million replacement is part of the company’s overall $51.2 million investment in the mill this year, also including a $16.5 million caster mold rehabilitation and a $10.3 million rebuild of the No. 12 boiler.

ArcelorMittal estimates the new 1,700-ton stacker reclaimer will last for 30 years. It was made in Germany and China by the German materials handling systems manufacturer FAM, and installed by St. Louis-based construction firm MC Industrial.
