Andritz to supply walking beam furnaces for ArcelorMittal mill in US

Austria-based international plant and equipment supplier Andritz has announced that it will supply two new top- and bottom-fired walking beam furnaces for global steel giant ArcelorMittal’s hot strip mill in Burns Harbor, Indiana, US. The new furnaces will replace the company’s existing pusher furnaces, while commissioning is scheduled for 2020.

According to Andritz, each of the two furnaces will heat carbon steel slabs at a rate of 500 mt per hour. The combustion systems of the furnaces will reduce emissions. In addition, the furnaces will reduce overall fuel consumption as a result of their long, unfired preheat zones and individual burner control.

This order follows the successful completion of a major revamp by Andritz of two 450 mt per hour walking beam furnaces at ArcelorMittal Indiana Harbor in East Chicago, Indiana.
