Ukraine-based steelmaker ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih has announced that the investigation department of the Security Service of Ukraine arrived at the mill again on September 3 and has started checks of its coke production facilities.
About 42 sources of emissions at the coke production complex are subjects for checks, while the inspection of only one of them was completed by 18:30 on September 3, according to the press release issued by the producer. Some disruptions are likely to be experienced in coke production, even though there has not been any confirmation from the company that production has been stopped.
The previous round of checks was carried out on July 20, with the Security Service taking away the company’s continuous casting machine No. 3. A complex with new continuous casting machines (CCM)-2 and 3, with a total capacity of 2.8 million mt, is one of the key investment projects of the company and the stoppage of installation of the equipment has hit ArcelorMittal. The project has been resumed and installation of CCM-3 has been restarted as of early August as the company has proved that radiation has not exceeding safe levels in the equipment.
