The Brazilian arm of ArcelorMittal announced the conclusion of investments totaling $1.13 billion in wind and solar energy assets, designed to produce one gigawatt of energy, increasing the energy self-generation capacity of the company by 85 percent by 2030, the company said today.
“The completion of this investment represents a significant milestone in the company's energy transition strategy,” said ArcelorMittal CEO, Everton Negrosiolo. “It aligns with rising demand for sustainable operations and enhances competitiveness and efficiency.” Additionally, Negrosiolo said that ArcelorMittal is presently the fourth largest consumer of electric energy in Brazil.
The plants that compose the project are the following:
- Wind-powered Babilonia Center Complex, located in the municipalities of Várzea Nova and Morro do Chapéu, Bahia state, joint venture with Casa dos Ventos to produce 553.5 megawatts, investments equivalent to $818 million, operations started in September 2025.
- Solar-powered Babilonia Center Complex, located in Várzea Nova, also in joint venture with Casa dos Ventos to produce 200 megawatts, investments equivalent to $127 million, operations started in March 2026.
- Solar Park ArcelorMittal Energia Paracatú, located in the municipality of Paracatú, Minas Gerais state, in partnership with Atlas Renewable Energy, to produce 264 megawatts, investments equivalent to $174 million, operations started in October 2025.
