The Turkish domestic rebar market has started the week relatively silently in terms of demand as most local buyers have already restocked with material and are now purchasing only in line with their daily needs. In Turkey, both electricity and natural gas prices have increased by 5.8 percent for industry and by 18.61 percent for industrial consumers respectively starting from April 4. As a result, most Turkish mills are aiming either to at least maintain their official rebar prices or to increase them. Sources report this energy price hike has not yet been fully reflected in local rebar prices because demand is absent so far.
Official rebar offers and workable prices from the mills in the Marmara and Izmir regions, including İçdaş' prices, have remained stable at $610-625/mt ex-works and $605-620/mt, respectively, as compared to April 2. One Izmir-based mill has set its official rebar price at TRY 32,500/mt ($607/mt) ex-works today, stable in the local currency while falling by only $2/mt on US dollar basis due to the ongoing currency fluctuations.
One of the Iskenderun region-based mills has set its official rebar price today at TRY 32,300/mt ($604/mt) ex-works, also unchanged on lira basis, while falling by only $1/mt due to the ongoing currency fluctuations, compared to April 2. Sources report that several Iskenderun-based rolling mills are offering rebar today to serious buyers at TRY 32,000-32,200/mt ($598-602/mt) ex-warehouse, stable in Turkish liras and down by only $1/mt in US dollars over the same period.
The ongoing currency fluctuations and sluggish demand have not been enough to trigger another rebar spot price increase so far. Currently, local 12 mm rebar prices in the spot market are in the range of TRY 32,000-32,500/mt ($598-607/mt) ex-warehouse, remaining flat in the local currency with only minor changes on US dollar basis depending on the region.
