Anglo American sees improvement in iron ore output in Q3

Australian mining giant Anglo American Corporation has announced the production results for the third quarter ended on September 30, 2011.

The iron ore output of Anglo American increased by three percent year on year in the given quarter to 12.2 million mt due to increased production volumes from the Sishen mine in South Africa. The Amapa mine in Brazil also reported record production of 419,000 mt in September.

Meanwhile, in the third quarter metallurgical coal production decreased by four percent to 4.0 million, while thermal coal production from South Africa and Colombia decreased by 10 percent to 16.8 million mt, both on year-on-year basis. Australian open cut operations reported a record production increase of 24 percent year on year in the given quarter.
