Ajaokuta Steel commences operations on Oct 8

Ajaokuta Steel Company on October 8, 2004 will reportedly commence its initial steel production after maintenance. It is stated that in the initial stage, the plant will produce 300'000 tons of steel. Trial-running of the plant will be done between September 28 and 29, 2004 and the actual operations will commence on October 8, 2004. Production at the plant is planned to be increased to 400'000 tons in a couple of months, and then later to the 1.5 million-ton, total installed capacity of the plant.
