Altos Hornos de México (AHMSA) announced that it will commence another phase of its "Phoenix Project" at the end of March: the Steckel Plate Line, which will have a capacity of 1 million tons of rolled steel plate and sheet with specifications that are not currently produced in Mexico.

Besides the Steckel Plate Line, the Phoenix Project involved the design and construction of Blast Furnace 6, put into operation in April 2011, and an electrical substation. Units that will be added this year include a steelmaking electric furnace with a capacity of 1.2 million metric tons per year, a fourth continuous casting unit and an oxygen plant.
